A List of Frequently Asked Questions and Answers:
1. Where are you located?
– All of our cats are in Pittsburgh, PA
2. What is your adoption process?
– You must apply and pay the $25 application fee. $15 of this will be applied to your adoption. You will get a call within a week regarding your application. You will be asked a series of interview questions regarding your ability to be a loving responsible pet parent. We will will tell you if you’re approved or denied.
3. Do you have a shelter?
-No. We are a rescue not a shelter. All of our cats are in foster homes. This is an important distinction because shelter implies a place with full time employees who are paid. We are neither full time or paid. Also, there is not one central location where you can come meet our cats. Meeting them involves a volunteer taking time out of their day so you can come visit their home.
4. Is this your full time job?
– No, we are volunteers with full time jobs outside of this.
4. Can I foster or foster to adopt if I don’t live in the Pittsburgh area?
– Unfortunately not. We appreciate the thought, but it’s too complicated if we need to get the cat back. You must live in the Pittsburgh area to foster.
5. How do I get the cat I’m approved for?
– Transportation is 100% your responsibility. However, if you live East of the Mississippi River, Pilots N Paws (free), or a transport service (not free) are options. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SET THIS UP. If you live west of the Mississippi River, you will have to fly here and fly back with the cat. NO EXCEPTIONS.
6. Where do you adopt to?
– The continental US and Canada. However, Canadians, it is your job to keep up to date with current regulations for what would be needed to bring the cat back across the Canadian border.
7. When will I receive a call about my application?
– You will get a call within a week of applying.
8. How much is your adoption fee?
– It is currently $400. However, we do charge more for certain breeds; Sphynx and Maine Coons are $650. We also have a waiting list for these breeds.
9. Why is your fee what it is?
– It cost us $500 per cat to get them here, plus the cost of vetting them. So we lose money even with our adoption fee at $400. Also, purebreds are not cheap to own. They often have higher vet bills and expensive grooming needs. So if the adoption fee is too steep for you, adopting a purebred may not be the right choice for you. Instead, maybe consider adopting from another rescue or shelter. Additionally, if our adoption fee was cheaper, it could attract the wrong people looking to resell our animals.
10. What breeds do you get in the most?
– We commonly get in: Persians, Scottish folds, British shorthairs, and Himalayans.
11. What vetting do your cats come with?
-All of our cats come: Fixed, up to date on vaccines, combo tested, microchipped, dewormed, and flea treated.
12. When can I pick my cat up?
-We asked that you make arrangements to receive your cats within two weeks of them finishing their vetting.
13. What is the Friday market?
– The Friday Market is a market in Kuwait where individuals come to sell various goods. Unfortunately in Kuwait, many animals are sold here in terrible conditions. It is riddled with disease, they are not checked very often for food and water, and often crammed in tiny cages. We would like to see them stop selling animals.
14. Are your cats healthy?
– As previously stated, all our cats receive routine rescue vetting. Any other problems that arise while in our care, we address. However, also as previously stated, purebreds are more prone to health issues than domestics. If that’s not something you’re mentally and financially prepared for, rescuing a purebred is not right for you.
15. How old are your cats?
– We do not know age until the cat has arrived in the US. Please don’t ask until then.
16. Do I have to apply again once I’m approved?
– Your application is good for 1 year. After that, we ask that you reapply.
17. How do I go about adopting?
– You have to apply and be approved before being allowed to adopt. Our application can be found here
